How Much Does a Vascular Surgeon Consultation Cost in Hyderabad?

3–4 minutes

Patients rarely ask me about cost directly in clinic — but it’s one of the most searched questions before they ever book. Here’s a straight answer.

Cost is a legitimate concern, not an awkward one, and I’d rather patients ask than avoid a consultation over uncertainty. Here’s how the costs typically break down, and what actually drives the total bill up or down — because the consultation fee itself is usually the smallest part.

💳 What Determines the Total Cost

  • Consultation fee — a first visit with a vascular surgeon in a private Hyderabad hospital is typically in the same range as any other super-specialist consultation; a follow-up visit usually costs less than the first
  • Diagnostic tests — a Doppler/duplex ultrasound is the most common first test and is relatively affordable; CT angiography, MR angiography, or catheter angiography cost significantly more and are only ordered when the ultrasound findings need more detail
  • Procedure type — this is where cost varies most. A day-care varicose vein procedure, an angioplasty with a stent, an AV fistula creation, and an open aortic aneurysm repair sit on very different ends of the cost spectrum
  • Hospital stay — many endovascular procedures are day-care or overnight; open surgery typically needs a longer stay, which adds room, nursing, and monitoring costs
  • Insurance and cashless approval — most vascular procedures are covered under standard health insurance, but pre-authorisation timelines and covered amounts vary by insurer and policy

🧾 A Practical Way to Budget

Exact figures change frequently and depend on your specific diagnosis, so I won’t quote numbers here that could be outdated by the time you read this. Instead, at your first consultation, ask directly for a written estimate covering the consultation, the recommended tests, the procedure (if one is needed), and the expected hospital stay. A transparent surgeon and hospital will give you this without hesitation.

If cost is a genuine constraint, say so at the first visit — there is often more than one valid way to treat a condition (for example, compression therapy versus intervention for early varicose veins), and knowing your budget helps me present the full range of medically appropriate options rather than assuming which one you’d prefer.

❓ FAQ

Is a vascular surgeon consultation covered by insurance?

The outpatient consultation itself is usually not covered (most Indian health policies cover hospitalisation and day-care procedures, not OPD visits, unless you have an OPD rider). Procedures and hospital admissions are typically covered subject to your policy terms and pre-authorisation.

Does government vs private hospital make a big cost difference?

Yes, often substantially — but with trade-offs in waiting time and appointment availability. I’ve written a detailed, honest comparison linked below.

💡 Key Insight: Don’t let uncertainty about cost delay a consultation for concerning symptoms. Ask for a written estimate at your first visit — it costs you nothing to ask, and it lets you make an informed decision rather than an anxious guess.
